Magic Carpet Ride In Progress

Starting with the face as I need a face to help visualize the emotion of the painting.
Updated Painting in Progress.
This painting has been a real challenge, but it's also been a great exercise for me to get back into it. I hadn’t realized that it’s been three years since I last worked on this particular painting.
I kept looking at it, redoing it, scraping off layers, and trying new approaches. Yesterday, I figured out what was wrong: the proportions! Today should be better and hopefully more satisfying. Whoever says creating art is fun must lack true insight into what controlling the narrative of art really is! I suppose I’m going through a mental block, much like what a writer or composer experiences when creating a novel or song. Sometimes it flows, and other times it’s just a mind game messing with your vision.

Finally got the face to a good point. The picture I’m working from is a bit grainy so capturing the tilt of her head took awhile. I worked on the left arm, skirt and peacock feathers, just getting proportions and colors right. Working with cool and warm colors.
Tomorrow will work on the bird then carpet and then fishnet stockings, not easy, but will be spectacular when finished.
After I’ve done a second go-around it will be close to finished.
I’m going to the desert at the end of the month for a week. By the time I return, the painting should be dry enough to do finishing details!

Today I looked at it and revised the left arm. It’s all about seeing, and I’m looking at things to close.

Worked and adding color blocks and shape to the bird carpet and hair. Will tackle it when I return for another go-around with more details. Then probably go around it again and again. Hopefully in the end it will satisfy my intentions to enter into ARC contest!
