FIGURATIVE WORK
My large scale works depict women in beautiful vintage fashion that I have collected over the years. I’ve selected models that fit these dresses and resemble famous celebrities—such as Frida Kahlo, Jerry Hall or fantasy beings, Angels and Fairies. Other concepts are women and wine escaping the rigors of motherhood and society’s criticisms of balancing work , family and values.
In Magic Carpet Ride (72” × 48”, oil on canvas), I embrace the dramatic tension and elongated elegance of contemporary Mannerism to explore the transporting power of imagination. Inspired by Steppenwolf’s 1968 anthem, long misread as a drug ode yet truly a hymn to music’s ability to lift us beyond the ordinary, the painting depicts a young woman reclining upon an opulent, swirling carpet. Her form, sinuously elongated and bathed in luminous, jeweled light, surrenders to reverie.
Beside her, a magnificent peacock—radiant with iridescent blues and greens—unfolds its splendor like a vision of ideal masculine beauty. He is not flesh but fantasy, the embodiment of desire and possibility conjured by the soul-stirring call of melody and color. Rich patterns, lavish textures, and theatrical contrasts of light and shadow heighten the emotional intensity, pulling the viewer into the liminal space between reality and dream.
Through this work, I celebrate the feminine capacity to transcend the mundane, riding the magic carpet of art and imagination toward freedom, beauty, and self-possession. In an age of distraction, Magic Carpet Ride affirms that true escape lies within.
